Bathroom Reno

Okay friends, it’s finally the time! Renovation reveal blog posts are seriously my favorite thing ever and it’s always just so satisfying to be able to show off a finished space! It’s been 15 weeks! I really don’t know how some of ya’ll out there bust out renovations in a couple weeks. Between our jobs, and our lives and the kids, it feels like it’s so hard to make time to get stuff done, so I’m pretty happy with the 15 weeks! lol

Okay, let’s get right into it! We live in a split level, and most day-to-day life is on the upper level! There are 3 bathrooms in the house total. One downstairs (which is in worse shape than this one was, lol) and two upstairs! (one being in the master bedroom) That makes this bathroom the primary bathroom of the house. It’s the one guests use and just the most used bathroom in the house overall! It was always so embarrassing having guests over and sending people into this bathroom, so it was pretty high up on the “reno” list and I’m so happy we finally got to tackle it!

Here’s the before!

It was pretty dated and just a bit blah. While this was a full renovation, we always do our best to reuse and recycle, so we came up with a plan for this space and tried to save what we could! Our plan was to save the tub and the vanity! The tub was actually in good condition still and we would have replaced it with one that looked exactly the same, so might as well keep it!! We decided to keep the vanity as well! It had good bones and we liked the size and placement, it just needed some love! Everything else in the space had to go! We said bye to the pony wall, the tile, the tub surround, and the lighting and we got to work!

With that being said, let me walk you through the after!!!

We are just truly over the moon with the way this space turned out! It was actually just a really great design collaboration between Nate and I, but still screams drug lord grandma. ;p

First things first, the tileeeeee! The amazing tileeeee!

This tile combination is actually the first thing I decided on and really fueled the design in the rest of the space! I knew I wanted some statement tile and I was so excited to be able to partner with Riad tile for this space! We knew we wanted black flooring and I died when I saw their Black Terrazzo! It’s such a stunning tile and the perfect dark flooring! My favorite part is that you legit can’t tell at all if they are dirty! This bathroom is the main bathroom of the house and a nice low maintenance tile is perfect! Nate and I laid this tile ourselves and it was a really easy tile to work with!

For the tub, I wanted another really fun and lux but bold tile! I love pink everything and when I saw the Norwegian rose herringbone marble tile from Riad, I knew right away that it’s what I wanted! I love the way that it looks paired with the black terrazzo and I really wanted the bathroom to be really heavy on the natrual textures!

I think tiling the shower was one of the hardest parts about DIYing this bathroom! The herringbone is stunning, but its a little trickier of a tile and gave us a run for our money at first, but we figured it out and were able to bust it out in a weekend! It may have been a little more difficult but dang, it was so worth it. Our shower seriously feels like it would be in some loft apartment in Paris! I sealed the marble with a glossy sealer just to give it a little shine and make the shower easier to clean!

Originally, I had planned to bring the pink marble down the side of the tub, but after messing around with the tiles, I decided to bring the black terrazzo up the tub and I’m so happy with that decision! I think it looks so sleek and fun and really makes the marble pop against the contrast of the terrazzo!

Next up was faucetry! I was super excited to partner with Pfister for a tub and shower set for our space! Obviously, I wanted gold! Pfister actually has a ton of gold options which is awesome, because so many other brands out there are so limited in their gold options! I fell in love with the Tisbury set and thankfully they carry it in gold! I knew I wanted a rain style head and just a really aesthetic diverter and tub spout and this set checked all the boxes!

We actually had to reroute some plumbing and get a new valve in for this set and it was our first big shower plumbing job, but it went really well and the set was really easy to install and the instructions were clear! Once we finished tiling and grouting and sealing, we were able to install the trim pieces and it is an absolute dream! The way to gold looks against the pink marble is just too much! It’s exactly what I envisioned when dreaming about this space and the Pfister faucetry really is the finishing touch! I decided to mix up metals and paired the gold with a black over flow and drain and I’m obsessed!

I also knew I didnt want a shower curtain! I’m not spending all my time and effort installing a pink marble tile just to cover it up with some dinky curtain, so glass was a must! I’ve had my eye on the Elan shower door from Vigo industries for so long I was so stoked to use it in here! I know I know, glass is high maintenance, but I sprayed it down with a water beading spray and we squeegee after every use! I think as long as we take care of it, we’re good!

Next, we’re moving up! You know I love a statement ceiling, and this bathroom definitely needed something bold up top! The drywall on the ceiling was falling apart, but still structurally sound! I could have repaired the drywall, but I just had this idea of a wood panel ceiling in my head! This is where Nate comes in! If you don’t know, Nate is the plant manager at a local millwork (Colorado Springs Architectural Millwork Supply)! He’s super talented and can seriously make anything, and I gave him creative control over the wood ceiling, and he didn’t disappoint! We did a birds eye maple and then he cut it into large panels and it’s just absolutely stunning. Once the finish went on, the birds eye maple seriously shines golden and the ceiling is luminous!

Becasue the ceiling is such a statement, I just wanted a more simple light fixture and got to partner with my favorites Mitzi! I went ahead and picked the Moxie 3 light flush mount in brass and white and I think it’s the perfect fixture for this space! I love the way the white pops on the golden ceiling and the vintage nod! We finished it all off with some beautiful crown moulding that we brought even into the shower and it really makes the space just look so elegant!

If you follow my stories, you know I was really into the high tank toilets and really wanted one for this space! After hearing from everyone, we decided this space wasn’t the one! With so many kids being over all the time and especially a little fella named Leo, we didnt feel comfortable having a high tank in this space. Definitely going to use it in our master bathroom renovation though! The toilet in this space did need to be replaced as it was original to the home (73’) and we just swapped it out with a basic toilet. I did however order a replacement handle in gold, so that jazzed it up a bit! I found the perfect bathroom shelves with hand towel rack and they are perfect above the toilet!

I know a lot of you were also really invested in the laundry chute! We did keep it and it’s behind the art and it’s a really cool little setup but you have to wait a little longer because I’m doing a seperate reveal on that because I’m annoying and I like attention when I have a fun idea. haha. The art was a really fun DIY that I did with some goodwill art and some leftover joint compound! The kids actually added all the texture which was fun for them, and then I painted it a pretty mauve! Love the large scale art and the heavy texture over on this wall!

Last but not least, the recycled and improved vanity!!!

20210515_224557.jpg

I knew that I wanted to cut this down to one sink! I didn’t feel the need for two in this guest bathroom, and I knew right away the sink I wanted to use! I’ve been obsessed with Nood Co. sinks for years and it was such an honor to partner with them on a sink for this space!

20210515_224338.jpg

Because we were cutting down to one sink, I knew I wanted it to be a bigger on, so we went with the pill basin style! They have so many colors to chose from, and I went with the pastel peach! It’s a blushy peach and very similar tones to the rose tile in the shower!

We obviously had to replace the counter top and I wanted something just as luxe as my new sink! Nate just came in so handy this entire renovation, lol, and he designed and made this custom burl wood countertop. I honestly cant get over how talented he is and I truly think this countertop made the entire space!!!

I love the large gold faucet we chose, and a last minute decision was to offset it and I LOVE it!

20210515_223658.jpg

We added some slats to the vanity face to give it a retro fluted look and some large gold door pulls! I originally had painted this cabinet a sage green, but it just didn’t feel “me.” I ended up feeling really inspired by one of my favorite vases that is the perfect shade of periwinkle and I took it with me to the store to match it and find the prefect paint color! This is “Blue Galaxy’ by Valspar! Needless to say, I’m currently obsessed with periwinkle and this vanity situation and paint color makes me so dang happy!

I’ve had this vintage gold mirror for quite some time and I’ve been waiting for the perfect spot for it and she’s finally found her home ya’ll! Paired with a couple of Gabby sconces from Mitzi, and the vanity and this bathroom were finally complete!

One bathroom down, two more to go! lol. Thanks for all the love and support while we work on projects! I always say it but this was truly a labor of love! We’re taking a little break from inside and will be tackling some outdoor projects this spring and summer and I can’t wait to show you what we have going on next!

Love you guys!!
