Shower remodel with Vigo Industries
Alright friends, progress on the bathroom has been made and the end is in sight!
We knew going into the remodel that the shower was going to be the hardest part! Here’s a look at the before! We ripped out the shower surround and drywall, had to redo the plumbing, install new cement board, waterproof, tile, grout, seal, and install a glass shower door! This project definitely took a little longer than we thought, but it was really so labor intensive! This being our first shower, we definitely had our work cut out for us!
Ya’ll know that aesthetic is king over here, so after installing a pink marble tile, there was no way I was throwing up some shabby shower curtain! I know they require care, but I definitely wanted a glass shower door and immediately turned to Vigo Industries! I wanted something luxurious and Vigo Industries does not disappoint! I feel like all of my favorite bathrooms and some of my favorite pins all have Vigo shower doors so I was so excited to put one in this bathroom!
I was choosing between two doors! I fell in love with Rialto glass half door! I loved the 80’s vibe and the European feel of the half door.
I also fell in love with the Elan sliding door! I loved that they had it in a gold option and how seamless the sliding door rollers were!
As much as I loved each door for different reasons, it really came down to functionality for us. I really was so super close to picking the Rialto, but in the end, the Elan won! This bathroom is a guest bathroom but will also be the primary bathroom for our kiddos, and thinking about them splashing water all over the bathroom with the half door was anxiety inducing. lol. As much as I loved the smoky glass, I have a pink marble shower and I really wanted something that let that tile shine! We ultimately decided to go with the Elan sliding door and I’m over the moon with how it looks in our space! It’s fun an quirky compared to most shower doors, but it also is luxurious and over the top which is right on brand for me! I love how I can clearly see my tiles and the way they really pop with all of the gold accents!
Installation
Our Vigo Industries door was really quickly and safely delivered after we placed our order. It was packaged really well and I loved the organization of all of the pieces. Sometimes just getting set up is that most time consuming part of a project, but The Vigo Industries packaging was so convenient! Installation was honestly a lot easier than we thought! This was our first shower door and it took us a couple hours, but really wasn’t hard work, just a little time consuming! There are a lot of adjustable features on the door that even accommodated for the fact that our walls weren’t completely square and Nate was really impressed with that aspect and the technology of the adjustable rollers!
About the Elan
Of course aesthetic is important to us, but functionality and quality of a product is more important! Anything for your home is a huge investment and you want something that is a good quality! One of our favorite parts about this door was the adjustability! our home is a 70’s home with a lot of wonky corners and edges. We were worried about installing a glass shower door in that space because literally nothing in that bathroom is level or square, but the adjustability in almost every direction was a life saver! The roller disk technology also allows for 3/8t” adjustability as walls move over time! A lot of times that is how glass doors end up spontaneously shattering and it’s such an amazing feature! It’s also constructed from ANSI Z97.1 and 16 CFR 1201-certified tempered glass for added safety!! Like I mentioned, it’s a kids bathroom, safety is important! Speaking of the kids, I also loved how its a no slam door! The roller disk system comes with some soft rubber door stoppers that work with the disks to make sure that the door cant slam on either rolling direction! The top rail support ensures wall anchoring and reinforces wall stability which is definitely important!
I had also read a lot of reviews on other brands where people complained abut hardware being fake metal and rusting or corroding, but Vigo Industry doors are high-quality stainless steel and solid brass and resist corrosion and tarnishing! I went with the gold for this door, but it also comes in a variety of different finished and I was honestly close to doing all black hardware in this shower! I mentioned before, but this door is frameless as well! It mounts on the sides of the shower and has some hardware along the bottom, but no floor or side tracks, which we loved! I think glass sliding doors have a bad rap because of how gross the frames get, but the Elan eliminates that worry! Also, all VIGO Tub Doors feature a quality assured Limited Lifetime Warranty!
After the door was installed, I got it all wiped down and treated it with a water beading spray, just like one you’d use on a car windshield! I head about this on tik tok and it’s supposed to protect the glass and make is more resilient to mildew! I of course also ordered a shower squeegee asap and will be doing daily inspections to make sure everyone is squeegeeing after every shower use!!! Sometimes if you want nice things you have to take good care of them!
This door totally makes the bathroom! I think it was definitely the right choice for our space and just gives the room such a vibe already! We have just a couple more things to get finished in this bathroom and then we’ll be done! Keeping some of the final details a secret but I’m so stoked! The hardest part is behind us and I can’t wait to show off a full reveal!
